2012 Annual Meeting

We received 151 valid votes and 34 votes that were rejected for reasons like the homeowner didn’t sign the envelope or put their home address instead of their Rolling Hills house address or a spouse signed that wasn’t on the association records as an owner.

The final tally is -

  • Jay Arabshahi – 86
  • Kami Fallah – 80
  • Richard Grifasi – 64

I congratulate Jay and Kami for winning this competitive election and thank Richard for serving on the board for all the year he did and appreciate his work on the architectual committee in the past and going forward.

Election Ballot Issues Again

I know you’ve heard this over and over again over the past few months but yet again, the ballots mailed out just a few days ago have errors. If you already mailed it in, good chance that it will come back to you because Merit didn’t put their street address, 1 Polaris Way, #100 on the mailing address for the return envelope. You can correct this yourself or wait a week or so to get official instructions. I did my best to proof the ballot before it went out, but had no control over how the envelopes were printed.

The start of 2012 at Rolling Hills

What’s new for Rolling Hills is not as much as what’s old and hasn’t been fixed yet like the Arlington gate that looks like a crime scene with yellow tape and has not worked in months and half finished projects like the street curb repainting project where the contractor walked off the job about a half year ago and management is still unable to find someone with a paintbrush to finish it. I have strong concerns about the management company’s ability to maintain the community and hope fellow board members agree and make the necessary changes.

For the 3rd time in two months, the ballots that have been mailed to you for the 2012 Annual Election have been deemed invalid by the association attorney. Expect new ones in the mail in about a week. The election is interesting in that Jay and Richard ran un-apposed last year, but we have a new comer, Kami Fallah. For the sake of the community and peace and harmony on the board, I encourage you to bring new blood into the board and cast your vote for Kami. He has fresh passion and drive that the board needs.

December 15th Board Meeting

Uneventful meeting, the  items discussed were -

  • award an engineering contract to evaluate the streets at Glennrock, Brandon, Englewood and half of Hampton for repaving and possible water issues
  • wait for a final bid on the Glennrock gates to be reviewed and setup meetings with the 3 bidders to discuss the project
  • Firstline was there to discuss cameras at the gate, appropo consider the recent gate vandalism at Westfield. A meeting will be setup in early January to review our needs at the various gate locations.

Recall Meeting Results

177 homeowners voted at this recall election, certainly one of the largest number of Rolling HIlls homeowners voting in a long time. Unfortunately, 30 votes were marked as invalid by the inspector of elections mostly because ballots were unsigned, people used their non-Rolling Hills mailing address and a spouse signed that was not on the title. Because 158 votes were required, we missed having a quorum by only 11 votes.

About 22 homeowners were present and they voted to not continue this further. This means the recall matter dies tonight. The annual election ballots should be mailed out next month for a February annual meeting.

Agenda for 12/15 board meeting

As always, I encourage homeowners to attend. The meeting will be at the usual place (Laguna Niguel Senior Center) at the usual time, 6:00PM.

The two new items being discussed are;

  1. a proposal from the civil engineering firm, LaBelle Marvin to evaluate and create requirements for the repaving of Brandon, Glennrock, Westfield and Englewood.
  2. two bids for the Glennrock Entry Gate project

Ironically, no bids are being presented for the speed study project or the finishing the red curb repainted that was started about 5 months ago.

Westfield Gate Graffiti

The Westfield gate was found early this morning with graffiti. Volunteers are helping to clean it up. If you have any information about who did this, please contact Merit Property management at CRodrigues@meritpm.com. Continue reading

Recall and Board Meeting Date Changes

The December board meeting was changed by Merit from Wednesday the 21st to Thursday the 15th. The Recall meeting will be held Friday December 16th at 5:00PM at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center located at 25925 Camino Del Avion, San Juan Capistrano.

The reason for the recall meeting change was the error in the ballots. New ballots will be mailed out very soon with my expectation that you will receive them early next week. The original ballots that were sent out will be null and void.

Ballots Messed Up Again!

The ballots mailed out last week have an incorrect address on the envelope and they are being returned to sender by the post office. This was just discovered today on the heels of the previous issue where the candidacy statements where printed incorrectly. Today you should have received the proper candidacy statements from Merit but do not mail in the ballots you received earlier this week, wait for new ones that should be mailed out soon.

The November 28th meeting will have to be postponed. Stay tuned for the new date in mid-December.

Recall Update

Congratulations to all for working so hard in the last few months to have your voices heard in our community. Helping to stop the board from removing all our valuable trees and to help drive the board to reduce our monthly dues.
